Ok, I still don't have some fun quip about life, or what this blog is about to put here. Someday - perhaps tomorrow perhaps two years from tomorrow - I will figure it out. Until then, see my randomness below.

How gay are you?

So.. I took this test, and...

You're going to be a WHAT!??

I know that much of my readership is not in what we should call the 'technical' degree side of academics. Just one look at my friends list yields more than one English major, a history major (perhaps 2), a boat load of women's studies classes, a psych degree, and yes even one philosopher (of sorts). Maybe that is why, when I happened to be directed to this article on MSN I started thinking of people I could email this to. People who, like me, have endured, at some point in their lives, questions like "What exactly does a ________ do" and "but you can still afford a good home for me on the wage you'll earn as a _______?" For what its worth...

I learned over the break

Something interesting, which I learned over this past break, is how to make an irate person quiet themselves. On more than one occasion this has played out in front of me, but only recently had I seen it enough to put the pieces together.

The process is fairly simple. Armed with my knowledge as a law student people will often start spouting off their problems to me like I know how to help them. I have often tried the line "you get what you pay for, and free legal advice is CRAP," but usually they keep pushing. The way to shut them up is to tell them they should actually seek legal advice on the matter. I am in no way telling them they do or do not have a case, or even my opinion of such matter. I just say something like, "well if he made you that mad, maybe you should see an actual attorney since I am not one yet." The responses are great, and range from a general quiteting of the individual to a sudden reconsideration of exactly how perturbed they actually are.

Funny what people don't want when they have to pay for it.
